This Week in SnackChat

It's Memorial Day weekend folks! Let all raise a glass and remember the people who fought to protect us. It is also a three day weekend, so let's get this party started.

What better way to get this party started by making the drive out to Vegas.  The only Del Taco with with a regional taco.

In the wrong lighting it looks like Poo burger.

And get one on the way back.

It's like a packaged croissant right?

My favorite part was blowing out and the gum powder would get all over the place.  Just like real cigarettes. The gum was so bad tho!

It's like a trip to the Mediterranean

It's like another trip to the Mediterranean but really it's from the same place.

A healthy SnackChat.

Screen cap fail.  These happen from time to time.

A potato a day keeps the doctor away.

I don't know how I feels about this one.

These are the kind of tacos I can get behind.
Tacos have no boundaries.

Tacos at the same time everyday!

Bonus SnackChat from moi.

It is a giant Xio Long Bao!  You needed a straw to drink it.  Post 13 mile hike.

Eizelle Eats Out Guide to the Best Of Long Beach: French Fries

Everyone seems to be doing lists and "best of" these days and almost always I disagree with the author and their reasoning. I shouldn't because it's not entirely the authors fault. Their fault lies in the categories they choose to feature and that they allow it to be an open forum for people to vote.  Don't get me wrong, I love Long Beach and all the people but you guys are totally wrong!

Take, for example, the Best of Long Beach: Food and Drink 2014.  Hole Mole won the following categories:

Best Non-Traditional Take on the Taco in Long Beach - for the Rosarito Taco
Best Lunch Special in Long Beach
Best Place to Cure the Midnight Munchies in Long Beach
Best Fast Food in Long Beach

Best Chain Restaurant in Long Beach

I don't trust most people's food opinions and this seals the deal for me. Everyone knows that the best chain in Long Beach is MVPs and the best place to cure the midnight munchies is Big Es because they deliver.

I cannot sit in silence no more. I can't have lists and what not plaguing the Internet telling me what the "Best of insert city/state" is and not having my vote heard for the city I actually live in. My blog, my rules.

THE BEST FRIES IN LONG BEACH GOES TO:

That's right, the Pike.

I've had fries everywhere and I can confidently say these are indeed the best fries. They are made from real fucking potatoes!  I've seen the potato mountains. Hand cut fries that are a nice cross between a wedge and a semi-coin with the skins on. They all different sizes and shapes and to me it is the true taste of a potato. They are very crispy and very hot when they first come to you so give it a nice blow before you put one in your pie hole.  You can get them with Cajun seasoning but I like them regular, basic if you will. These fries are one of a kind and I have never had anything comparable to these fries.

Not too many bars in Long Beach are afforded the opportunity to have full food service and beer and liquor. That is usually left to the big name restaurants and nobody actually wants to spend a night drinking at Applebee's. If you do, I'm fully judging you.  Best consumed at 12am while sitting at the bar on a weekend or on a Monday because it just feels right.  Yeah it's crowded, and when you leave you will smell like a deep fryer but you're sitting at the bar with a pint and a band or DJ is present. You can't hear the person sitting next to you and you are practically screaming at the bartender but you have the company of the best fries in Long Beach and sometimes that is all you need.

Where are your favorite fries?

This Week in SnackChat

I was browsing my iPhoto library and I realized that my collection of SnackChats is massive and I love them all.  It's like I shared meals with all of you!  Keep them coming and I will keep screen capping, sharing, and judging you.
J/k...not j/k.

Have Your Heard the Rhythms of the Night?

Just a quick update as it has been a hot minute.  We took a little vacay to Puerta Vallarta for a friends wedding.  It was beautiful and we had a blast.  There, the sun doesn't set till 8pm and because of this, I am about three shades darker.  Since the resort we stayed at was all inclusive we rarely had a memorable meal.  The most exciting part was that there was an unlimited supply of Pacifico with lime and that was really all that mattered.  In a dream scenario, I would be at the pool, lounging with a Pacifico sitting on the edge of the pool.  I would finish the last bits place it down, and magically a new one with lime would appear.  Good thing this really happened.

PS. These are the best pool snacks when peanut service isn't an option in your hotel. I wanted to buy them all!  It is crack. Think of Hot Cheetos but 10 times more addictive and 30 times better than the Flaming Hot Peanuts in America.

In this resort, the food was merely the fuel to keep you from passing out completely.  Resort food, I am convinced is flavored for the rest of the world and Canadians. There was no seasoning in anything! I had to add extra lime and salt to salsa. SALSA! At that point it was just an undressed chopped tomato salad. To be fair, I did make a pretty interesting breakfast with black beans, whatever potato product was available, pork stew and a combination of the red and green salsa.  It was...satisfying.

We ventured out to downtown and had a local beer that was actually pretty good.  It was from Los Muertos Brewing.  It was a nice change of pace from all the Pacificos.  Here you can also get a slice of pizza, fries or a salad and a pint of craft beer for 60 pesos or $4 USD.

The best meal hands down were those to paletas in Saylutia. I ate the mango with chili and Shane had the watermelon.  It tasted like my childhood. With their powers combined, made for the BEST PALETA EVER! Saylutia is a surf town much like Venice.  Hippies, artists, and what not and very colorful. It is cute little city.

The flight home we experienced a 5 hour delay, all the food stands were closed in the terminal and they threw away all the good food on the plane. Also our last full meal was at 12pm Puerta Vallarta time and we landed at 12 am Puerta Varatra time. However, they were distributing free booze to numb the restless.  We got home safely but the hanger was real! In a desperate search for flavor and food we went the most perfect "first meal back in America meal." In-n-Out. There is nothing more perfect yet it is so simple. To us, it was a beacon of hope welcoming us home.

This was a regular hamburger with onions, extra lettuce and extra pickles.  I could have eaten ten of them.
